          Rabbi Sheldon Schevelowitz spent his childhood trekking the New York City bus and subway system to attend various Jewish Day Schools. This was just the beginning of his life of his long pursuit of a Jewish education

          Rabbi Schevelowitz was raised in Maspeth, New York. He is the son of the late Rabbi Joseph and Anita Schevelowitz. His father was the Rabbi of the Maspeth Jewish Center for forty-seven years until his retirement.

          Rabbi Schevelowitz is a graduate of The Talmudical Academy Bet Aaron receiving his rabbinical ordination in 1973. He also received a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bernard Baruch College. In Addition he obtained a Computer Technology Certificate of Study from New York University.

          Rabbi Schevelowitz teaching career began in 1969 at the age of nineteen when he taught his first Hebrew school class in Maspeth. Now thirty-six years later he is still teaching Hebrew school to our students ranging in ages from eight years to thirteen years old. In addition he teaches Adult education classes to our members.

          Our Rabbi spent several years living and working in Israel. He spent five years in the Kosher Supervision field covering the entire Long Island, New York area. He had an extensive Chaplaincy background and was assistant Chaplain at the New York Hospitals as well as the New Jersey Department of Corrections. He is certified to teach several behavioral and life skills courses by the State of New Jersey.

          Rabbi Schevelowitz has been the Rabbi at Perrineville Jewish Center since September, 1989. He is joined by his wife Sarah and children Jonathan,20, and Diane,18.
